Trading Divergences

By Ahmad Hassam

Price oscillator divergences have long been acknowledged by technical traders as a solid indicator of potential price reversals. But it doesn't mean that divergences will always predict a reversal correctly. However, well defined divergences particularly on the long term charts can be surprisingly accurate in many instances.

Price divergence oscillators can be spotted with just two elements on the price charts. Catching a major price reversal at the correct time can be so profitable that only a few accurate divergence signals are needed to offset the inevitable false signals.

The first element is the price and the second element is an oscillator that runs either above or below a price level. This second element can be Stochastics, RSI, MACD or any similar oscillator.

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) is among the most popular technical indicator or an oscillator invented. Many traders use MACD as their sole confirming indicator.

Some traders also take trading signals exclusively from MACD. MACD is a multifaceted indicator that acts as a sign of trend momentum by representing the relationship between two moving averages.

You must have used MACD in your trading. MACD is basically the difference between two moving averages. MACD can be traded by taking signals from the crossovers of two lines, crosses above and below the zero line. Relative Strength Indicator (RSI) is another popular oscillator that provides a measure of price momentum.

RSI may also be used for divergence purposes. RSI is an indicator that gives overbought and oversold signals in ranging markets. However, its usefulness like most other indicators tends to diminish during a trending market. Stochastic indicator may also be used for divergence trading.

A divergence occurs when there is an imbalance between the price element and the oscillator element. Both begin to go separate ways and start telling opposite tales. This is the point when the oscillator is providing a strong hint that price may be losing its momentum and a change in price direction may therefore be impending.

There are two types of divergences. A bearish divergence occurs when the price hits a higher high while the oscillator hits a lower high. A bearish divergence is a hint for an impending reversal back down.

A bearish divergence is an indication that price may soon turn and go back down as the higher high in the price may lose its momentum and begin falling.

On the other hand, a bullish divergence occurs when price hits a lower low while the oscillator hits a corresponding higher low. A bullish divergence hints at an impending reversal back up.

Divergences are often used as hints of possible turns and reversals. However, divergences are not frequently used as a full fledged self sufficient trading strategy. When used in conjunction with other trading tools, divergences can be a remarkably effective method for helping to time major market events. - 23199

Learning to Invest in Real Estate at the Beach: A Brief Guide

By Jeremy Szechenyi

Purchasing land is simply buying undeveloped land near or on the beach. Finding beachfront land is a serious challenge and typically high priced. You can find land that isn't exactly beachfront, but is close to the beach, and holds some good value. Whether you decide to search for land on the beach or just back from the beachfront, the land needs to have potential value. The follow three points are things to consider.

1. Determine why the land is for sale.

2. Are utilities available for a house?

3. Figure out if any development projects are going to take place.

First, you need to figure out why the land is for sale. There are many reasons why land goes up for sale, from honest to dishonest reasons. Zoning restrictions can cause issues with building a house, and you will need to be aware of these restrictions when evaluating a property for purchase. Land might also go on sale because of hidden problems with the land itself, such as ground too soft to lay foundation in. Make sure you know the land and about the property before you buy.

Second, figure out if the area has utilities available for a home. Houses need utilities, like electricity, water, and sewage. Some areas, especially if reasonably remote, might not have all utilities available. Septic systems allow you to not need a sewer access, but there will probably be restrictions for their use in land near a beach. Keep in mind that if the area nearby is being developed, then there might be a chance for the utilities to become available. This situation could give you a chance to purchase the land for a low price, and have the value rise substantially when a house is built and utilities become available.

Lastly, make an evaluation of the area and what potential residential development and commercial development project might take place. Development projects can both benefit and detract from the value of a house. If you happen to find a perfect piece of land, for instance with a clear view of the ocean, an open area capable of putting a house on, and forest surrounding the house on all other sides, then development projects are not as negative. If you don't have those, and the development would make your land feel crowded, then it would be a detraction. The main idea is to think long term about your investment. - 23199

Trading for a Living In a Downhill Economy

By Peter Skonctuedt

The economy has gone in a downward spiral for some time. Everyone knows this, and it has not been kept a secret. It's very alarming, and there are many who wonder whether or not day trading for a living is even a good idea in such an economy. There are a number of things to look at in figuring out whether or not day trading is still profitable.

There are several questions that accompany that statement. The biggest one being how you could possibly have any gains when the economy is in such bad shape. Investing right now could only bring about loss, right?

Well in all truth, the way the economy is right now makes trading a bit easier than usual. The thing is, a fluctuating market makes it much easier to trade. A good day trader will know how to use these fluctuations to his or her advantage.

Remember that a trader must buy when the market is at it's lowest, and then sell as it raises. By doing this, day trading will stay quite active, and anyone who is smart will be able to use this to their advantage.

The current rapid ups and downs make the current climate one that can be appealing to a professional day trader. But, do not automatically assume the climate is 100% positive. The inverse is in play and a smart trader understands this.

Essentially, once you've made your investment, look around and look at lower prices. Yes, it's a risk, and there are many people who end up losing, but then there are those who gain heavily. Which one will happen to you? Either way, you need to be ready for the best or the worst.

One thing that you will need to come to grips with is that there is no set trend in the market. It's always going to change, and as you can probably guess, it needs to be that way. If it were always the same, more and more people would be getting into day trading for a living, and those people would be collecting huge profits. This isn't what's happening though; trading requires skill.

Again, that does not mean that certain market fluctuations can never create an atmosphere were success may be more viable. The current dropping of stock prices opens the door to purchase low and sell at a higher price if there is a rebound.

While you can't really follow or predict it with great accuracy, you will eventually develop a gut instinct. This means that sometimes you will 'just know' the right time to trade. This is something that is quite helpful when trading on the market.

Some people may examine the market on their own while others will use a reliable trading software platform. Regardless of the method employed, the volatile nature of the market has many traders engaged. How successful they will be will be based on the accuracy of their picks.

Some of those picks may even become famous if the outcome is surprising enough. This has happened before and it may happen again in a big way. Yes, the current market is that unique. - 23199
